MORALS AND POSTERS.
Sir, —The posters to which the Rev. J. J. North refers are not likely to impress children very much ono way of the other. It is the picture on the serene which rivets their attention, and does the harm to their impressionable minds, instiling in their minds knowledge of a kind which they have no right to have during; their earlier years. I was in a picture show recently, and seated right* in front of me wero two little boys aged 6 and 7 respectively. The"" heroine tell into the sea and was taken on board by the hero (after great exertion), who made frantic efforts to recuscitate her, but it all seemed in vain. Then the smaller boy of the two called out very loudly: "Ah, he's silly, why don't he talk love into her ear'; .that would soon wake her. up." By regularly gazing on certain pictures this child had got the idea that "stage love" was the vital spark in every extremity; and a panacea for every ill. He knows too much for his years. At school a child gets lessons that suit his age, and the "silver screen" (a great educator) should lie run on the same lines. By all means let,us amuse and entertain children.' -But we should exercise discretion as to the kind of entertainment, and we should not put old heads on young shoulders, But rather give them in pictures what their teachers give them verbally in school, viz., aspirations, ideals, kindly consideration • for others, respect and courtesy for the opposite' sex, veneration for the .ftged, n spirit of helpfulness for those 1.-ss favowrecl than themselves, all a sense of appreciation:lor all tl.at . . oiu-aiJe."
