ONE THOUSAND PINES.
DESTRUCTION BY FIRE. Over a thousand young pine trees were destroyed by the fire which swept some five acres of Williams Park at Day's Bay, Wellington, recently. These trots, which were'from 10ft. to 15ft. in height, were planted about eight years ago, • to'Ceover a steep and unattractive ' hillside- hot ween the northern side of Day's Bay and .the gully between Day's Bay and Muhiua Bay. Whether or' not this area'will'be replanted this winter depends on the amount of money granted to the Reserves Committee when the year's estimates are considered, hut. the director is of the opinion that, the area should be replanted ■without further delay.
