AUCKLAND CHESS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The 42nd annual meeting of the Auckland Chess Club was held in the clubroom last night. -Mr. A. E. Layland presided over an attendance of 18 members. The annual report expressed satisfaction at {Tie keen interest taken in the tournameut games during the current year, and congratulated the club captain, Mr. A. Fotheringliam, for his good generalship m commanding his teams, which won for Auckland the Dominion club championship for 1925-26. Prizes were presented as follows: Club* championship: J. A. Moir, 1; D. I. Jones. 2. Intermediate level: H. Knight. 1: R. Put man 2, Open handicap: Dr. Bruce Mackenzie, 1: J. S. Lock lev. 2. Afternoon open handicap: S. Coyne, 1: G. H. Edwards, 2. The Auckland and suburbs championship challenge cup tournament was won by .T. A. Moir with F. Ewen second. The. winner receives a handsome replica of Hie cup. A former treasurer, Mr. P. X. Stewart, donated a gold medal for-t lie player who won for Auckland (lie greatest number of his games in telegraphic matches. This prize was awarded to IT. Lees. Allow, \V. N". Maddox, A. E. Layland. It was resolved fo open the season on Monday. May 10. by a lightning tournament, open to all chess players, whether nxyjiliers of the club or not.
