CHILDREN'S COURTS.

THE CHILD WELFARE AOT.

PRESIDING MAGISTRATES.

MR. E. C. CUTTEN AT AUCKLAND

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. A Gazette notice contains a, list of magistrates who are to exercise jurisdiction in the new Children's Courts created under the Child Welfare Act, which .came into operation on April 1. In each of tho four centres where more than one magistrate is stationed the senior magistrate has been selected, as under: — Auckland, Mr. E. C. Cutten. Wellington, Mr. W. G. Iliddell. Christchurch, Mr. 11. Y. Widdowson. Duncdin, Mr. G. Cruickshank. Another Gazette notice establishes the Children's Courts. Tho recently-reported postponement of child cases in the North pending tho establishing of these Courts seems to have been unnecessary, as prior to their establishment the ordinary Courts had full legal power to carry on the work. A third notice in tho Gazette appoints the. members of the present special schools staff as child welfare officers under the now Act. Tho first sitting of tho Auckland Court will be held on April 24 in tho Y.M.C.A. building.
