BREACHES OF BY-LAWS.

PENALTIES ON MOTORISTS.

A number pf motorists were charged in the Police Court yesterday with breaches of traffic by-laws, police cases being taken before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., and City Council cases before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. For driving a motor-car with defective brakes, Peat, and Mulligan were fined £2 with costs on one charge and £1 with costs 011 another. C, E. Stoddard and. A. W. Walsh, each £2 with costs, and J. W. Davie, £1 with costs. Dangerous drjving cost J. W. Robinson, H. T. Porteous aid E. A. Martin each £2 with costs. For speeding, John Haynes was fined £3 with costs, and Hugh Caughey, Rex G. Ingiis, A. M. Martin, and A. J. Nesbitt each £2 with costs.

For leaving cars unattended, G. Wrightson and C. N. Wallnutt were each fined 10s with costs. F. Laurence was fined £1 with costs for carrying petrol in a place other than the vehicles's tank.

Dulcie Turn bull was fined 10s with costs for not having an assigned number on her car. Failure to ohiv a traffic signal at an intersection cost A. C. Norden £1 with costs.
