INFANT DAUGHTER'S DEATH
SINGLE WOMAN GKARGED.
CASE AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

An inquest was held this morning concerning the death of a newly-born child, the body of which was alleged to have been found on January 21 in a suitcase carried by Hazel McNamara, a single woman, aged 23 years, a domestic servant.
The police evidence was that the girl was arrested jusit as she was leaving for Auckland. At the police station she admitted having given birth to a child two days previously, and that it had lived. Medical evidence was that the child had lived and had been dead a day or two. Death was; probably due to hemorrhage resulting from non-attention, there being no marcs of violence. A verdict was returned that the child died from lack of proper attention. Hazel McNamara was then . charged with responsibility for the child's death. The evidence was similar to that given at the inquest. Accused was committed for trial at the next local sittings of the 'Supremo Court. She "made no statement.
