EMPIRE WIRELESS.

progress of movement.

BEAM STATIONS SOON READY. Reuter . LONDON, Feb. 16. The Postmaster-General, Sir William Mitchell Thomson, was asked, in tho House of Commons, with which parts of the Empire his department was now in direct wireless communication. He replied .to the effect that there was at present no two-way communication by Government wireless between Britain and the Dominions. He hoped, however, that such services might be established in the current year with Canada, South Africa, India and Australia by means of the beam stations, which are now' being constructed. The contractors for the stations hoped to complete them, those for communication with Canada'.and» South /Africa by April, and those for communication with India and/Australia' by August,- ' As regards, 'one-way communication there had been, for some time a press- service between Britain • and Nova- Scotia, said Sir William. The opening of - the Rugby-station had now .made-possible the broadcasting of messages for ■■•reception anywhere in. the JBritish Empire,- • Experiments in' wireless telephony between and Canada "were "continually proceeding, but it was too ? much to say. that progress had been satisfactory.
