AIRCRAFT EXPENDITURE. FIVE -YEARS' PROGRAMME. EXPENDITURE OF £20,000,000. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. WASHINGTON. Feb. 17. The Senate to-day approved an appropriation of £3,780,000 for expenditure this year on naval aircraft. This is an increase on the total named by the House of Representatives for the .annual vote for the Navy Department of about £1,000,000. A provision authorising the Secretary of the Navy to enter into contracts for aircraft at a cost not to exceed £820,000 was also approved. The Naval Committee of the Lower House has practically agreed upon a fiveyears' building programme for the naval air service at a, cost of £20,000,000.
