FIRE BOARD FOR DISTRICT. ■ .«* BOROUGH COUNCIL BUSINESS. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] PUKEKOHE. Tuesday, The constitution of a Fire Board for the Pukekohe Borough has been gazetted, the members being as follow:—Government representative, Mr. James Roulston; fire insurance companies' representatives, Messrs. W. G. Bell, H. M. Didsbury, and J. A. Taylor ; Borough Council representatives, Messrs. J. Routly, R. .F. Wilkinson and G. T. Parvin. , The Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. John Routly, presiding. A petition from 60 ratepayers asking that Edinburgh Street should be continued to join the Paerata Road was presented by Mr. M. R. Grierson, who submitted that the extension would give a more direct route into tho town from the Auckland side and eliminate the dead-end on an important street. The petition was referred to the Works Committee for report. A petition for the formation of Carlton R6ad was also referred to the committee. The Minister of Railways advised that he could not grant the council's request that one of the Main Trunk expresses stop at Pukekohe daily.. The question had to be viewed in the light of other similar towns ajso desiring an express stop, and if all requests were to be granted the time of the through journey would be considerably lengthened. It was decided to reply that the ordinary express stopped at Pukekohe on Sundays without any appreciable inconvenience to through passengers resulting.
