FRANKLIN ACTIVITIES.
THE BURNS ANNIVERSARY. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN COttRESPONDKNT. ] PAPAKUJRA, Tuesday. The Franklin Burns Glub held the annual anniversary dinner last evening, Ihe function, which proved a great success, was attended by about 120 persons A special feature was the inclusion o£ ladies, who were present by special invitatiou. The toast " Immortal Memory " was proposed by the Rev. li. R. Q r^n . wood, who • gave an interesting address dta the life and work of- the poet. Scottish music, Highland dances, Scottish humour and songs predominated in the programme following the dinner. The Franklin- branch of the Auckland Automobile Association held its second run of the season on Saturday, the trip being to Duder's Beach, via Clevedon. About 20 cars took part and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was • spent. The heavy rain the previous day had laid the dust; and the' roads were in good order, even the clay stretch toward the beach giving no trouble. It is being metalled and will be completed shortly.
