UP-TO-DATE BURGLARS.

NEW STEEL-CUTTING TOOL. SUCCESSFUL USE IN LONDON. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Jan. 24. The most daring robbery that has been recorded for years occurred in a West End jeweller's establishment. The fobbers used an .instrument 2ft. high worked by motor and a steering wheel. With this they* cut a circular hole lOin across in a massive safe. The tool is now in possession of Scotland Yard. It. is the first of its kind which has been found by English detectives. It was first heard of in South Africa last year. In the present burglary three men worked throughout the night, and were ready to leave when the charwoman came to work next morning. .They actually opened the door to her, saying, "Good morning! Come in. We have just finished repairing the electric light." They thereupon left, taking jewellery, including diamonds, valued at £IO,OOO. It is surmised that.the thieves intended to carry away their instrument, which was mounted on an iron base, but could not do so owing to the arrival of the charwoman. The room was strewn with powder from the fireproof material in which the safe was encased and through which the drill bad bored.
