IMPORTED FOWL WHEAT.
PRESENT DUTY TO APPLY. e EFFORT TO SECURE REMOVAL. [BX TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Monday. A number of inquiries have been made regarding the possibility, of importing fowl wheat in bulk from Australia next month. At present, permits are granted to import fowl wheat from the Commonwealth in limited quantities, which will not prejudice the sale of this season's local wheat harvest. In order to relieve the New Zealand shortage, the Government has allowed fowl wheat to be imported duty free. This concession, however, will cease at the end of the present month. There was an impression abroad to-day that the Government had decided to remove the duty, but inquiries proved this to be incorrect. matter is not at present before Cabinet,' but from what can be gathered it is fairly certain that the Government will be approached to remove the duty on importations from Australia.
