TRIPLE ASSAULT CASE.
YOUNG'MAN SENT TO GAOL. : BROTHER HEAVILY FINED. An assault on three persons in Hobson Street on Saturday • resulted in the appearance in the Police Court yesterday of Joseph Lennane, aged 24, who adnitted assaulting Margaret Creech, Mary Cantell and Alfred Fowler and resisting a constable. Hugh Lennane, agea 23, a brother of the other accused, was charged with obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty. Mary Cantell said she was in Hobson Street with Mrs.. Creech, when the two accused approached. Joseph Lennane asked a question and followed it up by striking her on the mouth. He then turned round and knocked her companion down. Both then walked away. Margaret Creech gave corroborative evidence. Fowler said ho went to the assistance of tho women, but Lennane also knocked him down. Constable Smith said he arrested accused as a result of a complaint, but was met with considerable resistance. Sergeant Calwell said that Hugh Lennane had not been in trouble before, but the other accused had five previous convictions against him, including one for assault. Hugh Lennane was fined £lO, in default 14 day!;' imprisonment. The other accused was sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment and was fined £5, in addition, for striking Fowler, half tho fine to go to Fowler.
