DAME CLARA BUTT.
MEMORABLE FINAL CONCERT.
Dame Clara Butt's magnificent voice and powerful personality scored another triumph at the Town Hall last evening, when the final concert of the season -was presented before a densely-packed audience.
The programme was one of great range, but at least two of Dame Clara's numbers had a universal appeal, for "Land of Hope and Glory" and "Abide with Me" were greeted with tumultuous applauso from all parts of the house. "Softly Awakes My Heart" was another greatly-appreciated item, while her duet with Mr. Kennerlev Ruraford, "Dear Love of Mine," was charmingly rendered. Dame Clara's other numbers were all sung with that genius and subtle feeling that mark her as one of the world's greatest artistes. Mr Kennerley Rumford was well received in a number of songs, which included "Larg-j »< Factotum," "Requiem" and "The Two Grenadiers." Mile. Marie Antoinette Aussenac, the brilliant French pianiste, was . greatly handicapped by her right thumb being sprained, but she performed excellently in" Scriabine's "Nocturne" with the left hand alone, and m "Bouree," by SaintSaens. The management is endeavouring to arrange for. Dame Clara Butt to pay a return visit to Auckland at the beginning of March, 'lf this eventuates she will give two concerts.
