BREACHES OF BY-LAWS.
MANY MOTORISTS FINED. NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGES. A number of motorists were fined in the Polico Court yesterday for breaches of the by-laws. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., was on the Bench, and Sergeant Calwell appeared for tho police. City Council cases heard before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., were conducted by Mr. G. R, Hogan, chief traffic inspector.
For negligent driving Henry Wilson was fined £l, with costs, and Charles N. Rhodes was ordered to pay £5 lis costs, Thomas J. Harris, £2 13s costs, and Iris Florence Humphries, £2 10s costs. Samuel Christie was fined £5, with costs, on each of two charges of failing to obtain heavy-traffic licenses, and for similar offences Edward Lye was fined £5, with costs, and Robert Short, £l, with costs.
The following were each fined £l, with costs, for chiving in a dangerous manner:—William Wolfe, Joseph J. Gardiner, Walter H. V. Taina, Henry Landon Smith, Harry S. James, Hilton Roy Tyler, Leslie R: Anderson, Frederick Hempleman, alfred Williams and Ernest Horspool. Fines of 10s, with costs, for leaving vehicles unattended were imposed on each of the following:—John H. Hayes, Thomas Steele, Reginald B. Hammond, Alfred M. Flornaes, Neville E. Hopkins, Douglas E. Gray and Stanley E. R. Momsh. Driving an unlicensed bus cost Jack Elliott 10s, with costs. For failing to run to time-table John S. Hughes was fined 10s on each of two charges. Alfred C. Goodacre was fined 10s, with costs, for driving" on the wrong side of the road. For failing to hold out an arm when turning corners Cedrick H. McMillan was fined 10s, with costs, and James Fraser, £l, with costs. Father Skinner was fined 10s, with costs, for not obeying a traffic signal. For passing a stationary tramcar Vivian Parkinson was fined £2, with costs.
Charles F. Alexander was fined 10s, with costs, for having no rear light. For remaining stationary in Empire Road 'Peter Hegglan was fined £l, with costs. Francis T. Innes, who had defective brakes, was fined 10s, with costs. Pillionriding cost S. Watkins, 10s, with costs. beveral prosecutions against motorists who failed to carry drivers' licenses with them wore conducted by Mr. Lowrie on behalf of the Takapuna Borough Council, lhe following; were each fined 10s- with costs:—H. Cooper, John Wright, S. Wallis R. W Davidson, F. W. Bowrinp, S. Raebone, J. W. Davidson, J. F. Hardie E. E. opraggon and L. Smith.
