THE NEW BISHOPRIC.
ARCHDEACON EVANS' HOPE. MODERATE MAN DESIRABLE. [By TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] NEW PLYMOUTH. Friday. The hope that a moderate churchman would be appointed as Bishop of the new diocese of Waikato and Taranaki was expressed by Archdeason F. G. Evans, speaking after his return from a tour in Britain. "I am more than ever convinced," he added, "that there is no room in New Zealand for extreme men and that if they come hero they will be a hindrance and not a help to the Church." Archdeacon Evans said hei thought- it extremely unlikely that he would take any official position in the new diocese. He thought tho new bishop should havo the privilege of appointing his own archdeacons. lie had had 14 years as archdeacon. He was not so young as he was, and he thought it well that someone else should have a turn.
