KEEN SALE FOR WOOL.

A SLIGHT RISE IN PRICES.

BIDDING AT CHRISTCHURCH,

VERY FEW LOTS PASSED.

ALL BUYERS SHOW AN INTEREST.

[ilT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHBISTCHURCH. Friday.

The second Christchurch wool sale of ifche season was continued this morning, when the balance of the catalogue was submitted. The spiritedness of the previous evening was more than and the sale went through in smart time.

Tho whole of the buying bench appeared to want wool, and as limits were obviously sharply defined, thero was on occasions quite an exceptional clamour. A feature was the widespread buying points represented. Bradford showed much more activity than at last sale, while very substantial purchases were made by America of hogget wool and by the Continent of practically all medium classes. Several of tho local mills secured a heavy stock of fcho super wools, and local fellmongers were fairly prominent in the competition for pieces. Compared with the average prices of last sale, and considering the heavier condition of the present catalogue, values were better for good to super wools by £d to Id per lb. On shabby to medium wools tho market was much freer, with a par to a £d advanco. The atmosphere of the market may bo judged from the fact that generally about 250 lots an hour aro considered, good selling. On the present occasion the alacrity of the bidders, permitted this average to be extended to 350 and upwards. For the paucity of tho passings the salo about constitutes a record. Of the 20,000 bales offered only 311 were passed at auction and a good few of these were sold 'during tho day.

Wbile the prices are not sufficiently advanced from tho moderate figure previously ruling to enthuse farmers, the general atmosphere of the market was very satisfactory. Values were:—
