NEW PENSIONS ACT.
THE CONTRIBUTORY SCHEME. LARGE NUMBER OF CLAIMS. A. and N.Z. LONDON„ Jan, 7. It is learned officially that 306,000 widows and children so far are benefiting from pensions under the new Widows and Orphans and Old Age Contributory Pensions Act, which came into operation on January 1. Tho number of claims received was 163,000, and the pensions awarded were 103,000. Applications rejected or withdrawn numbered 25,000, while applications still under investigation number 34,500.
