Reports from Amsterdam state that while tho rivers Rhine, Waal and Meuse have fallen, the River Yser has attained a record height. A thousand people have already been rescued from attics, roofs or ,the dykes Many more are still awaiting rescue. Many people have lost all their possessions. Queen Wilhelmina has visited the military barracks at Ede, where many flood victims, consisting mostly of women and children, have been sheltered.. A message from Berlin states that immense damage has been done by the floods in the Rhineland. The damage to the harbour at Dusseldorf is estimated at 1,030,000 marks. Fifteen firms in the vicinity have claimed 867,000 marks. The claims already entered at Coblenz exceed 2,030,000 marks. STORM IN SYDNEY. HEAVY RAIN AND HAIL. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. A. and N.Z SYDNEY. Jan.' 8. A fierce storm, accompanied by heavy rain and hailstones of abnormal size, struck the city and northern and eastern suburbs. Fruit trees and gardens generally suffered badly, and heavy damage was done by flooding.. .
