ITALY'S WAR DEBT.
AN OLD " CONTRA " RECALLED
UNPAID PLANTAGENET LOAN. A. and N.Z. ROME, Jan. 7. Slgnor Luzzatti, a former Prime Minister of Italy, in an article in the Messages, recalls the fact that Edward 111. of England did not repay a loan of 1,500,000 florins, which he obtained from Florentine bankers in 1343. This loan and the interest on it, at per cent., says the writer, would wipe out the whole of Italy's present debt to Britain.
