OBJECTION TO SENTENCE.
ROTORUA COURT CASE.
MAN'S RELEASE REQUESTED
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] ROTORUA, Friday.
Protests against tho sentence of ono month's imprisonment imposed on Thomas Duncan Burns, a returned soldier, by a justice of the peaco, were voiced at a public meeting held last night at the instance of tho Returned Soldiers' Association. The Mayor, Mr. C- H. Clinkard, presided. The following resolution was carried: — " That this meeting, in viow of the severe sentence imposed upon Thomas Duncan Burns, a returned soldier severely wounded on active service and a first offender, respectfully urges tho Minister for Justice to secure his immediato release and to remit the balance of his sentence." The resolution has been forwardod to the Minister for Justico and the member for the district.
