THE TOHEROA INDUSTRY. EXHIBITS FROM THE NORTH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.], DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The provincial courts at the exhibition have been well patronised of late, and those in charge are doing their utmost to make the displays still more attractive. Goods and exhibits continue to arrive in the Auckland Court. "Gathering toheroas on the ninety mile beach" is the subject of a fine oil painting hanging in the North Auckland section. Four large photographs illustrating various phases of the toheroa soup canning industry are also shown, together with a number of tins of the delicacy. The fact that these shellfish aro found in commercial quantities on two beaches only may bo accounted for by their peculiar food supply and manner of feeding. The Ninety Mile Beach, which runs from Ahipera to the North Capo, is ono of the finest in the world, and is composed of clean ocean washed sand receding an a long gentle sweep from high-water to low-water mark. The beds are situated halfway between the highwater and low-water mark, and vary in width from 160 ft. to 420 ft., and in length from a few chains to a mile or more, the width and length being determined by the amount of food the bed produces.
