NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS.

DRAWN GAME IN SYDNEY. chanceless partnership,, FINE SEVENTH-WICKET STAND. TWO CENTURIES REGISTERED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received 11.35 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Jan. 1. The weather was hot and the sky cloudless when Patrick (71) and Allcott (51) resumed batting for New Zealand to-day in the match against New South Wales. The wicket was excellent and the outfield was good. Play for the first half hour was very lively. Allcott was particularly aggressive. Ho cut Nicholls and Twecdale delightfully, and drove with great power and precision. Patrick was more cautious. He batted patiently, but missed no opportunities of getting the ball away. Campbell, a slow bowler, was the only one to cause the batsmen trouble. He had to be watched carefully. Patrick made his strokes all round the wicket. Both batsmen were very slow between the wickets and lost many runs through this weakness. Their backingup also could have been improved. Play hung fire just before Patrick reached his century, noither player taking any risks. Patrick's century took 179 minutes,.and he was warmly applauded. Eleven runs later he hit a ball into the hands of Bardsley at square leg, but the fieldsman J dropped it. This was Patrick s onlj j chance. When the total was 225 Allcott survived a confident appeal for leg before. Allcott's Fine Display. Allcott passed his century just before lunch. Ho had occupied the crease for 212 minutes. A quarter of an hour after lunch and just before the fourth century was raised Morgan clean bowled Allcott with tho first bowl with a new ball. The retiring batsman had hit 15 fours and contributed a most useful innings. A practically chanceless partnership yielded 244 at a time when runs were most necessary. Morgan made tho now ball swing in dangerously and runs came slowly. Patrick carried on slowly, but occasionally made a big hit. When tho total was 440 for eight wickets Patrick hit a boundary. Tho next bowl he stepped out to Campbell, but hit over, the baLl and his wicket fell. He batted for 294 minutes and hit 24 fours. It was entirely due to his fine display and that of Allcott that New Zealand was saved from an innings defeat. Mcßeath hit powerfully all round and kept the out fieldsmen running. He was caught on the boundary by Vaughan. Home Team Bats Again. New South Wales opened their second strike with a littlo over two hours for play. Scanes gave a bright display, scoring rapidly by means of big hits until he skied a ball from Mcßeath to Allcott. Cunningham again started unluckily, a catch from Scanes being muddled by Blunt. Cunningham and Mcßeath were entrusted with most of the attack. Blunt s slow deliveries had no terrors for the batsmen. Phillips scored slowly bnt steadily and took no risks. The New Zealand fielding generally was good. Phillips showed considerable skill in piloting the ball through the slips. Mcßeath got more pace on his deliveries than in the first innings. Lowry, behind the stumps, let few balls pass. Punch played cautiously. Both batsmen allowed many easy balls to pass. Tho New Zealand bowling did not appear to be a3 good as in the previous innings. Punch, driving well, sent Cunningham several times to the boundary. Phillips displayed nice footwork in turning the ball to leg. He brought up his century with a good six off Patrick's first ball just on time. The gamo ended in a draw with New South Wales 205 for three wickets. The details are:— NEW SOUTH WALES.
