EARTHQUAKES AT VENICE.
TWO VIOLENT SHOCKS. J PEOPLE SEIZED WITH PANIC. ELECTRIC WIRES DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyricht. (Received 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. ROMIC, Jan. 2. Two violent earthquake shocks were experienced in Venice last evening, each lasting 12 seconds. A violent tremor was also felt at Trieste. Another message states that tho city was wrapped in a thick fog, when it was suddenly illuminated by flashes produced by the destruction of electric wires. A crash of stones followed. People were seized with panic and many fled from the cinema theatres, which were crowded at the time. No details of the damage have been received.
