SIR JOHN LE SAGE,, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 1. Sir John Le Sage, former managing editor of the Daily Telegraph, is dead, at Iho age of 88 years. Sir John Merry Le Sage, who retired from the position' of managing-editor of the London Daily Telegraph in 1923, had had a long career 111 journalism. After a brief career on the provincial press in England he joined the staff of the Daily Telegraph and served under the late' Mr. J. M. Levy and Lord Burnham He was a special correspondent in Franco, Russia, Germany, Italy, Egypt, United States and Canada. He was with the German Army in the campaign of 1070, and was also with Lord Wolseley in Egypt in 1882. He was also in Paris during the whole of the stormy period of the Commune. He was acting-editor of the Telegraph for many years prior to being appointed managing-editoi. He was knighted :n 1918. LADY RUSSELL. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Jan. 1. At the inquest on the late Lady Russell, aged 73 years, widow of the late Sir William Russell, of New Zealand, the evidence showed that she fell in her home on December 5 and fractured a leg. Her death was due to heart failure.
