AMATEUR WIRELESS.

TALK WITH WHALING SHIPS. SPANIARD CLAIMS A RECORD. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Saturday. An hour was spent by Mr. E. A. Shrimpton (2XA) on December 28 conversing by wireless telegraph on 36 metres with the whaling ship Sir James Clark Ross, off Coulman Land, 74 degrees south. The ship reported it had had a good Christmas, with fine weather, and for several days a wonderful midnight sun. Mr. Shrimpton reports that Mr. O'Meara, of Gisborne, has received a letter from a Spanish operator reporting reception of both Mr. O'Meara and Mr. Shrimpton, and claiming a world's record, as his location, a little north-west of Madrid, is practically the antipodes of Wellington.
