RIFLE SHOOTING.
AUCKLAND MEETING ENDS. THE KING'S CHAMPIONSHIP. NARROW WIN FOR C. J. M. CLARK. The Auckland Riflo Association's 52nd annual prize meeting was concluded on Saturday under conditions which were considerably better than those of tho previous day. The weather stall left very much to bo desired, however. In the morning the wind was strong and boisterous and the sky was heavily clouded. During the opening match tho sky cleared and the wind feK slightly. Although tho weather remained fino for tho rest of tho day it was still too strong to permit the erection of the large targets and tho ranges oi several matches had to be shortened. The Onehunga Match was fired at 500 yds instead of 800 yds and the Devonport and King's Championship at 700 yds instead of 900 yds. For the teams match 10 shots were fired at 500 yds instead of seven at each of 300, 500 and 600 yds. Considering the circumstances tk>_ scores in some of the matches wero excellent. In the King's Championship Rifleman C. J. M. Clark, a City and Suburbs representative, scored a popular victory by tho narrow margin of one point. His score was 301, Rifleman 1L C. Evans, of Te Ivuiti, being runner-up. There were nine entries in tho teams match, but Akarana A and B teams easily led and secured first and second places respectively.
