DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.
NORTH AUCKLAND DISPLAY. "NIAGARA OF NEW ZEALAND." SKINS FROM THE TANNERIES' [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. DUNEDIN'. Sunday. A fine oil painting of the Wairua Falls, the largest in Australia or New Zealand, and sometimes called the Niagara of New Zealand, is to bo seen in the North Auckland section of tha Auckland Provincial Court. It is from theso falls, 18 miles away, that the power is generated which supplies Whangarei and tho Portland cement works with electric light and power. Tho three great engines at the cement works are driven by the power, and tho plant at tho falls enables Whangarei to boast of one of the cheapest supplies in tho Domuiion. The section also contains a quite remarkable display of skins and leather from the North Auckland district. Among the exhibits which were specially prepared at the Whangarei tanneries, are some very handsome examples of sheep, goat and calf skins, lambs vrool and wallaby skius, and two very fine examples of skins of young Hereford cattle. Surmounting the skins are displayed handsomely polished and mounted horns of bullocks, some measuring upwards of 4ft, 6in., from tip to tip. PO2TSONM BOYS' BAND. COMING AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL. To the multitude of sounds in tho Amusement Park at the exhibition was added another on Saturday evening, the music of tho Ponsonby Boys' Brass Band. They played at the sports ground on New Year's evening, but moved nearer the centre of things on Saturday, and attracted much interest. The boys are fit and welL They leave Dunedin on Monday for Christchuixh and Westland. There was another huge attendance on Saturday, the turnstiles registering 55,081. Two big events open on Wednesday, the competitions championship festival, for which entries have been received from all over New Zealand, and the grand axemen's carnival, which will be held in the evenings on tho sports ground, under the light of high-powered arc lamps. Among the competitors trill be T. Richardson, Waikato, B. Xoeti find B. A. Gibbs, West Coast, A. Olive, Pahiatua, J. Teau, South Island champion, J. Pont, W. Bono and W. Johnston, Sou thland Tho total number of entries is 150.
