SUMMER CLOTHING FOR MEN.

Sir, —Year correspondent " Hopeful " has drawn attention to a fact, which lias no doubt struck men themselves all over the world—the failure of the mala sex to dress lightly in hoi weather. But I would go one further, and ask how it is that in New Zealand Auckland is the only place where the men dress the same in summer us in winter. It is a fact which has struck South Island visitors for years. From one end of New Zealand to the other, the sports players una sea bathers dress in tho same kind of appropriate summer clothes. But, whereas in the South Island, men, young and old, go about their business in the summer time in the lightest coloured and thinnest tweed suits, in Auckland they dress in the dark thick stuff used in tho winner in the South. You may take it for granted that the few light suits to be seen in Queen Street are worn by men who have not long resided in Auckland. Why ? A.B.
