Wednesday. ; Much valuable information concerning scientific and industrial research problems is expected to be gained by the presence in the Dominion of Sir Frank Heat! . secretary of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, England. In connection with his forthcoming visit a suggested itinerary has been approved by Cabinet. At the present time he is in Australia. He will arrive at Wellington on February 2, and will remain in the Dominion until March 16. Anxiety on the part of the Commonwealth Government to improve methods of scientific and industrial research was translated into an invitation to Sir Frank Heath to visit Australia, and the British Government released him for this purpose. An invitation was also extended on behalf of the New Zealand Govern* merit, and this too was approved by the Home authorities, the arrangement being that on the completion of his work in Australia Sir Frank Heath will come on to the Dominion, It is considered that in view of the interest being displayed in the subject of scientific and industrial research problems the Dominion will profit considerably by such a visit. Sir E. Rutherford's Report. The proposed itinerary, together with all the data relating to the activities of the various organisations, Government departments and private individuals conducting research, and all other scientific data which might be of service, has been forwarded to Sir Frank Heath in Australia, so that when he arrives here he will bo acquainted with what has been done in the past in connection with these important questions. Some time ago the noted scientist Sir Ernest Rutherford prepared a report setting out his views on how the Government could best carry out the development of industrial research in the Dominion, and these opinions will be considered simultaneously with Sir Frank Heath's recommendations. According to the suggested itinerary which has received the approval of Cabinet Sir Frank Heath will arrive at Wellington on February 2, and the following day he will interview the Prime Minister, Minister for Industries and Commerce and the Minister for Internal Affairs. On February 4 jhe is to attend a meeting of the Scientific and Industrial Research Committee, and will proceed to Auckland by the night limited. Ar:;kland and Hamilton. Sir Frank Heath will spend from February 5 to February 9 at Auckland, and arrangements are to be made for him to meet the university professors, the local industrial representatives and any other industries which may be decided upon. On the evening of February 9 he is to leave for Hamilton, and during the following day he is to visit various industries in the Waikato, including the large milk factory and timber works. On February il he will leave for Rotorua and is duo back at Wellington on February 13 or February 15. From Wellington Sir Frank Heath will proceed to Nelson and on Tuesday, Februarv 16, he will visit the Caw thro n Institute. He is to arrive in Christchurch on February 18 and will meet university professors and representatives of the industrial and engineering association during the two ensuing days. On February 22 he will proceed to Dnnedin. The Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be spent in Dunedin, where he will confer with the university professors, industrial associations and such representatives of industry as are at the exhibition. Sir Frank Heath will be back in Wellington on February 27, and on March 1 and 2 will meet departmental heads, university professors and the industrial association. The time between March 3 and March 10 will be set aside for the preparation of his report, and from March 11 until March 13 the Government and the Scientific and Industrial Research Committee will consider the report and ask Sir Frank Heath to answer any questions considered advisable and offer any supplementary information. Sir Frank Heath will leave for Auckland on March 14 and depart from the Dominion two days later.
