'2O. Serious floods have occurred throughout Europe and a hundred people have, been drowned in Transylvania. Special trains are succouring refugees. Thousands of horses and cattle have been drowned and boats are plying for hire in the Cologne streets. The river Seine overflowed its banks at many points and several low-lying parts of Paris are inundated. Warsaw and Belgrade are. threatened. There is widespread damage in Britain. Hundreds of miles of roads are impassable and vast areas of agricultural land are submerged. The Severn and the Wye are overflowing. The floods have assumed most alarming proportions in the northern district", of Yorkshire.
