TRAFFIC LAWS BROKEN.

MOTORISTS IN COURT. LONG LIST OF PROSECUTIONS. WIDE RANGE OF OFFENCES. A large number of motorists and drivers of commercial motor vehicles appeared in the Police Court yesterday for breaches of traffic by-laws and regulations. Police prosecutions were conducted by SeniorSergeant Edwards, while Mr. G. R. tlogan, chief traffic inspector, appeared for the City Council. For not having heavy traffic licenses, Samuel Christie was lined £7 with costs, Michael McCarthy, Matheson and Dahl, and Leslie Ramsey, £5 with costs. Robert, Williams and Winslow Williams, £2 10s with costs, and Harry Bond, £1 with costs. The following fines were imposed for dangerous driving:—Hugh G. Bartleet and Charles L. Quirin, £2 each with costs; Vincent Mead, Edward Copsey, Reginald Richard, Matthew Stewart, Charles Simpson and Ernest 'Bambury, each £1 with costs; William Iddeson was fined £5 with costs; William Campbell Veiteh, £2 with costs. Nellie Prosser was fined £ 1 with costs for driving in a negligent manner. Vehicles Not Properly Lighted. For failing to provide adequate lighting to vehicles Adrian Chenot was fined £2 with costs, and Leo R. Davis, Arnold D.obson, L. Monks and Aubrey Raymond, each £1 with costs. The following were fined 10s with costs:- —11. Norcross, H. E. Perry, Edgar Mountain, Geo. Kennard, Allan Murdoch Smith, Charles L. Quinn, Woolsey Allen, Ernest Muncaster, G. A. Codlin, Win. Hugh Moore and Browning, Ifwersori and Company. For similar offences Angus Hare, Allen Angelo arid Thomas Small were each fined 5s with costs, while C. J. Murfitt was ordered to pay costs. Ernest Montgomery and ICdward Cole were each fined £1 with costs for stopping in safety zone areas. William Britton, who turned his car to the right in Queen Street contrary to the by-law, was fined \£l with costs. Obstructing a tramcar with his vehicle cost Frank Elliott £2 with costs. For leaving a car facing in the wrong direction Horace Moody was fined 5s with costs. A bus driver, Charles Gaddes, who carried petrol in an unsafe place on his vehicle, was fined £1 with costs. If. R. Scarlett was fined £1 with costs for passing a tramcar on the wrong side. Leonard Hataway, who failed to obey a traffic signal, was fined £1 with costs. Cars Left Unattended. Leaving cars unattended for longer than the specified times cost William Harvie, Lewis Munro, Henry. Karo Emanuel, Ernest 11. Goodman and William Hadwin each 10s with costs. Francis Hogan arid Thomas Manning were each fined 10s with costs for allowing pillion riding/ while for holding on to the rear of a moving vehicle Edward Capieton was fined a similar amount. Failure to notify change of ownership of a vehicle cost A. J. Randall 10s with costs. Albert Glassy, who employed a person to drive a vehicle without a license, was fined £1 with costs. Fines of 10s with costs were imposed upon Henry E. Reed and Cox Smith for using unlicensed motor-cars. Causing an unauthorised mark to be affixed to a car resulted in E. J. Schofield being fined 10s with costs. Leslie \\ ;1liam Bowden was fined £1 with costs for failure to procure a certificate of competency. Leah Otto and Frederick Thomason, who cat corners, were each fined £2 with costs, and for a similar offence Albert Asmuss was fined 10s with costs. Several prosecutions for speeding were brought by the Avondale Borough Council, represented by Mr. Holmden. Reginald Bedford Hammond was fined £2 with costs and the following each. £1 with costs: —Joseph Carr, John Dingle, F. >T. Freeman. George Allan Jordan, Robert James Laing and David Taylor. For speeding in the city W. V. Ashton was fined £1 with costs, and Donald L. Ross 10s with costs.
