FIRES IN THE SUBURBS.
MOTOR GARAGE OUTBREAK. VAN AND CYCLE DAMAGED. The City and Western District brigades received a call at a quarter to ten o'clock last evening to a fire in a motor garage in New Street, Ponsonby, owned by I\lr. D. Callinan. The garage contained a motordelivery van and a motor-cycle and sidecar, the building and contents being considerably damaged. The Mount Albert Fire Brigade received a call at 1.45 yesterday afternoon to Richardson Road, Mount Albert, where a grass fire had broken out on a section. The fire was beaten out without trouble. BLAZE AT PALMERSTON. OLD HOMESTEAD RAZED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —rRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON" NORTH. Monday. Fire early on. Saturday evening completely destroyed a two-storeyed residence on the Rangitikei line just beyond the borough boundary. The building was erected 40 years ago by the late Mr. D. Buick, M.P., whose homestead it was for many years. The present owner is Mr. Jewell, of Paraparaumu. It was unoccupied, having been vacated by a tenant on Thursday
