NEW ARTERIAL ROAD.
ROTORUA TO EAST COAST. ROUTE THROUGH UREWERA. [BY TELEGRAPH.- —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] GIS BORNE, Monday. Survey of a road through the Urewera Country has been commenced by the Public Works Department. Mr. Leslie Reynolds, of Gisborne, lias been placed in charge. The road will traverse the Urewera Country, but this does not necessarily mean that the land will bo opened up. The road is required as one of the arterial roads of the North Island. It will put, Rotorua in much easier communication with Napier. The route will go through the heart of the Urewera, coming out at the Waimana Gorge, about half-way between Opotiki and Whakatane. It will be a considerable time before the work of construction is commenced.
