COSTLY COUNTY QUARRY.
RATEPAYERS INVESTIGATING. A MEETING AT TAHUNA. [BY TELEGRAPH.- —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] MORRINSVILLE Monday. Owing to the anxiety of many ratepayers regarding the financial position of Quine's quarry, the Tahuna branch of the Farmers' Union called a meeting to discuss the position. The riding member, Mr. E. R. Whitechureh, occupied the chair and furnished a statement showing the following position Preliminary survey and prospecting, £251 17s 4d; plant and construction, £5069 12s 8d; workingexpenses, £2685 15s 3d; total, £<3007 5s 3d. Against this 4540 yards of metal were produced, valued at 8s 6d per yard, £1969 14s 3d. It was stated that the original amount set apart for the work of constructing the crusher was £IBOO. After lengthy discussion over what appeared to be a very unsatisfactory state of affairs the meeting decided to ask the chairman and the engineer of the I iako County Council to attend a meeting of ratepayers next week, and to furnish a statement of all amounts expended in the different sections of the riding, and the amount that had been put aside for each riding. .
