AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE.

The amount of business done on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday was below the average.. Inquiry for Government securities was not so general, but the issues quoted were at ruling rates. In debentures, New Zealand Breweries were unchanged, holdefs being at 255, buyers 24s 9d. In banks, Nationals of New Zealand wore again available at £6 1.65, buyers £6 13s. Quotations for Now Zealands returned to the rates prevailing earlier last week, holders being at 575, buyers 56s 9d. Unions of Australia were again in demand at £l4 18s, holders asking £ls 2s. In insurances, New Zealands were on offer at 375, buyers 36s 3d, and South British were sought at the unaltered figure of 50s, no holders quoting. Holders of Nationals were slightly higher at 81s, with buyers at the improved figure of 78s 9d. In gas. Aucklands, which have been selling freely lately at 12s, changed hands at 21s lid. Closing holders were at 22s and buyers at the sale figure. In miscellaneous lines, inquiry for Colonial Sugar again stood at £SO 7s 6d. A sale of Staples' Breweries was recorded at 455, more being available at this figure, buyers 44s 9d. Taranaki Oil (cum rights) sold in two instances at 235. Late buyers offered the sale figure, with holders at 23s 3d. Inquiry for Wilsons Cement improved to 345, with holders unchanged at 34s 6d. In mining, there was an improvement of slightly over Is in the price of Kawaraus, early sales taking place at Bs, 8s 3d, 8s 4d and 8s 6d. Later quotations were weaker, holders being at 8s 2d and buyers at 7s lid. Waihis were steady, holders quoting 24s 3d, buyers 23s 3d. The following sales took place:—Auckland Gas, 21s lid; Staple's Breweries, 455; Taranaki Oil (cum rights), 23s (two sales), Kawarau, Bs, 8s 3d, 8s 6d, 8s 3d. 8s 4d, 8s 3d.
