[BY TELEGRAPH.- —-OWN COHRESPONDENT. ] WELL IN G TON, Sunday. Practically all the Trent ham horses and trainers are at Riccarton, which is. th.j centre of all attraction in the south. Wellitigtonians, although at Riccartou in good strength, did not achieve any great measure of success to-day. S. Roid, with Minotus, supplying the only winner. Minotus, who 'was sired in England and foaled m Now Zealand, promises to come good, for ho defeated a -lair held to-day in good style, returning a substantial dividend. Mandarino and Indian Sage represented the stable, but, ran only fairly well. Mr. J, A. Taylor was not particularly hopeful of the prospects of either Treehnni or Ilka. Tresham was well ridden by R. Roeci m the New Zealand Cup, and managed to gain sixth place, but riding was responsible for a good deal of that. Ilka was never in the firing line in the Stewards' Handicap. Mr. Taylor's English coit, Loyal Picture, at present in Canterbury, is universally admired, and he could be passed on at a good profit. He is a well-turned iron grey of good workmanlike appearance. H. B. Lorigan had no luck with either Lonmark or Orchid at Riccartou. F.onniark was prominent live furlongs from home m the hurdle race, but faded away. Orchid was outclassed in the Stewards' Handicap. A. D. Webster, of Otaki, almost brought off a big surprise in the hurdle race, for Bonecto was always on the premises find then finished third. Ho was ut an outside price. First Acre, from the same stable, was unlucky enough to be beaten in the first division of the Liuwood Handicap into second place, a really barren honour. _ Tana dees greatly disappointed his connections in the cup. He was beaten at. the end of a mile and a-quarter, and fun'shed up with the tail. He did a very cramped preliminary. and evidently did not like tho hard ground. Waetea, ran a gallant race in the New Zealand Cup. She is one of Mr. W. H. Pa Hi inter's much-travelled team. ' She was still footing ii with Te Kara and Count Cavonr at the turn having beaten off horse after horse. She finished up a very close fourth. The Tank went a fair race in the Apprentices' Handicap, but did not really look like a winner. He is, however, improving with racing. Fools' Paradise came with, a great rattle into sixth place in the Stewards'" Handicap He looks certain to win a middle distance race at the meeting.
