KAITUNA RIVER SCHEME.
DEPARTMENTAL APPROVAL. [BY TELEGRAPH.-—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ) TE PUKE, Saturday. An important meeting of the Kaituna River Board was attended by Mr, F. S. Dyson, district engineer. A letter from the Minister for Public Works was received stating that tiie Public Works Department considered that the proposed i'umu diversion and the reopening of. the Kaituna River mouth at the old Maketu entrance, and necessary dredging, eonld be done with plant available from the Lands Department at an estimated cost -of £12,0(30, and that the board was now in the position to proceed with a poll to raise the requisite loan. Mr. Dyson informed the board that' in his opinion the scheme, if adapted. WouiJ be very beneficial to the whole district, ' Mr. J. E. Anderson was appointed engineer to the board, and instructed to prepare the necessary plans for submission to the board. The stated amotin". of the loan is £4OOO, and if carried it will be supplemented by a grant of £BOOO from the Government and a special grant of £IOOO from the Arawa Maori Trust Board.
