NATIONALISATION.
Sir.—Mr. Holland, at his meeting in Auckland on Monday last, cleared away all doubts as to what his extremist party are going to do in the event of their getting into power. On the subject of their "usehold land" scheme, he says distinctly that the small property-owner can only sell his place through the Land Transfer Office, presumably to the State. This is a nice prospect for a hardworking man after working and saving for many years in getting a little home together to find that he (if he wants to sell) enn only have one buyer, namely, the St-.te, and then only at the latter's valuation. Then, again, it seems very questionable if the householder will get any cash at all. What a rotten scheme it is! I am sure that the small householder is not going to risk the loss of his homo by voting on November 4 for a lot of "Communistic cranks." With regard to the extreme Labour Party's "State ownership," "the extension of public ownership of national utilities and the speedv national control of the food supplies "of the people," if this is carried into effect it is going to knock out the butchers, bakers, grocers, tearooms, fish shops, greengrocers, fruiterers, and in fact every distributor of food. All these people are the greatest hoo'-t to any communitv, and I will back them to run their businesses bettor than any b-overn ment can. I notice by the reports of tho meetings of the various Labour candidates that some of them are trying to "water-down" some of their party s planks, but the public will bo the best judges on polling day. New Zeai, ander.
