MAORI WAR VETERAN.

SIR CHARLES M. CLARKE, REVISITING THE DOMINION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —I'RESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. General Sir Charles ■ Mansfield Clarke, G.C.8., G.C.V.0., and'his niece. Lad\* Tonilin, wife of Sir Thomas J. C. 'lomlin, Judge of the High Court, Chancery Division, arrived by the Corinthic troro London this morning. Sir Charles, who is 86 years of age, is an old Maori "War veteran, having served with the 57th Regiment, "Die liards,'" in New Zealand, from 1861 to 1866. Sir Charles proposes to tour the North! Island, first visiting the old battlefields upon which he fought so many years ago. He will then go to the South Island, where there are relatives. He was met on his arrival by Colonel W. L. H. Burgess, C.8., C.M.G., D.5.0.. Acting-Com-mandant of the New Zealand Defence Forces, and by Sergeant-Major Bezar, of Wellington, who is one of the four remaining members of the "Die Hards" still living in New Zealand. Sir Charles was at one time commandant of the forces at the Cape of Good Hope, later commanded the forces at Madras, and from 1903 to 1907. was Governor of Malta.
