PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS.
A LIVELY DISCUSSION,. A lively discussion marked the final sitting of the Victorian branch of the National Federation recently. One matter that was vigorously debated was the question of giving preference to returned soldiers, and some very heated exchanges ti 1 : took place. The matter arose from the appointment of Mr. G. S. Maclean as general secretary of the organisation. A motion was proposed regretting the action of the executive in appointing a ncn-scidier as secretary, but iv order to avoid dissension it was eventually withdrawn.
