TAKAPUNA AFFAIRS.
Sir,—l have been away from Auckland for the past week and my attention has just been called to the remarks made by Mr, Hayden at his Takapuna meeting. Mr. Hayden is reported as having stated that I acted with deliberate malice in connection with my actions regarding the reservoir site. To this, like to several other mis-statements attributed to me by Mr. Hayden. I give the most emphatic denial. It was soma time after, the election that I was pressed by various Takapuna residents to investigate the transactions leading up to the purchase. I made those investigations most reluctantly, as I could ill afford the time. The result of those inquiries rather surprised me, bat I have never implied dishonest motives to Mr. Hayden. Finally, in my opinion, I still say that the late council paid too much for tho Crown Hill site. Cyril Macxlet, Thames, October 5, 1925.
