NEW TRAINING COLLEGE
PREPARATION OF GROUNDS. SCHOOL SITES AND ROADS. A COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME. A plan showing the proposed treatment of the grounds of the new Auckland Training College at Epsom was submitted by the principal, Mr. H. G. Consins, for the consideration of the Education Board yesterday. Provision was made in the plan for the levelling of the site in the south-west corner of the grounds, where the Normal School, including the infant and kindergarten block, will be erected; for the lormation of the road leading from East Avenue; and for the levelling of the site for the model country school nearest to Kowhai Terrace- The proposed formation. of various roads to give access to the college and the laying down of playing grounds were dealt with in detail. Preparation of sites for the men's hostel, swimming bath and two additional model schools was also included in the plan. Mr. Cousins suggested that, while soma of the work might well stand over, other portions, including the levelling of the areas for the Normal School and model country school and the formation of the proposed roads, were urgent and should be pressed on without delay. if the whole scheme were carried out, considerable though the cost would be, magnificent grounds would be obtained at relatively cheap cost, since the actual land was a gift. The college had never previously asked the board for help, but the present undertaking was too big to be carried through without assistance. The plans are to be referred to the department for consideration, and application made for a grant to cover the most urgent portions of the work.
