NOTES FROM KUMEU.
RASLWAY SERVICE MATTERS. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] KUMEU. Wednesday. A n extraordinary general meeting of the Kumeu Ratepayers' Association was presided over by Mr. J. A. Lambden. Over 50 members were present. The proposals of the Railway Department in connection with the provision of additional trains to and from Kumeu, and the reduced fares which came into force on Sunday, were reported upon. The new fare is 4s 8d socond-class return to Auckland, while workers' tickets will be issued for use on the early train. Half-yearly season tickets, second-class, will cost £7 17s 6d, which works out to about 6s a week. Apprentices and other young people can obtain season tickets at half rates. It was decided that the vice-president should take charge of matters connected with the proposed Morningside to Kumeu railway deviation with a view to getting this work put in hand without delay. This deviation would bring Kumeu within 17 miles of Auckland, when the northern outlet tunnel is completed. The active support of all districts interested is to be enlisted. The Railway Department has a house under construction at Huapai station, and now that there will be a railway official resident on the spot renewed efforts are being made by local residents to persuade the management to provide a ladies' waiting room and other conveniences.
