FISHING AT HAMILTON.
POOR SUCCESS REPORTED. [by telegraph.-—-own correspondent.] HAMILTON. Wednesday. Fishermen on the Waikato River at Hamilton this season have not met with much success yet. One enthusiast, Mr. J G. Harp, spent a number of hours on each of three days at No. 1 Bridge, Whitiora, but caught only one mediuifisized fish each day. Mr. Harp states that 300 fish were taken out of the river at No. 1 Bridge last year and stocks were somewhat depleted. The Waikato has been in flood for some time and is disi'o'oured. This factor also affected the fislu.ig. He also thought that it was rather early for good fishing owing to spawning being probably not completed and the bigger fish being sluggish. A further influence that militated against good fishing was the fact that waste products from a butter factory were not flowing into the river as in previous years, and the fish were thus deprived of food which attracted them to the only suitable place in the river near Hamilton where fishing can be dg r 'e.
