MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.

ATTEMPT TO BOARD TRAIN. DRAGGED ALONG THE LINE. FARMER FALLS CLEAR OF WHEELS [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] FEILDIXG. Tuesday. A miraculous escape from death was experienced by Mr. D. D. McLean, farmer, of the Wanganui district, at the Feilding railway station this afternoonMr. McLean had attended a meeting of the Wellington Provincial Farmers' Union and was returning by the Main Trunk express. He stepped off at Feilding to speak to a friend and evidently attempted to board the train after it had started. He caught hold of the carriage rail and hung with his back to the engine, his heels dragging along the ground for 50 yards. Then he lost his hold and fell, fortunately outside the rails, but below the platform. The last grease box on the train caught his upraised arm and dragged him another 75 yards over a cattle-stop before Constable Roach succeeded in stopping the train, Mr. McLean was dazed and had sustained a cut over one eye. Otherwise he was not injured.
