EXHIBITION LAWN TENNIS.
AUSTRALIAN CUP TEAM. MATCHES WITH LOCAL PLAYERS. Exhibition tennis matches will be played in Auckland next Monday by G. L. Patterson and J. B. Hawbes, members of the Australian Davis Cup team. They are returning from America by the Aorangi, doe on Sunday. At a meeting of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association last evening, Mr. E. W. Griffiths presiding, a cablegram was read from the Australian manager, Hawkes. agreeing to play exhibition matches, it was decided to play the matches on Monday at the Stanley Street courts, including singles, Patterson v. Hawkes, and doubles, the Australians v. local players. On Monday evening on the illuminated courts in Olive Road, Mount Eden, an exhibition will be givea in which the Australians will be opposed to local players in both singles and doubles. The following local players have been selected to practice in view of the matches:—E. W. Griffiths, E. L. Bartleet, H. L. Robson and H. Brinsden. The third member of the Australian team, J. 0. Anderson, is returning to Sydney via San Francisco and Wellington.
