HORSE STOLEN AND SOLD. OFFENDER SENT TO PRISON. The theft of a horse valued at £B, and 2s 6d in money was admitted in the Police Court yesterday by Joha Edward Calvert, aged 25. Constable Smith, of Henderson, said accused made a statement admitting taking the horse, the property of Charles Cortesi, of Henderson. He subsequently sold it at Paparoa for £2 10s. " He offered to mak# restitution," said Mr. Calder on behalf of accused. The magistrate, Mr. Cut ten, imposed a sentence of three months' hard labour. RAIL TICKET NOT PRODUCED. William Mill Keiller, aged 43, pleaded guilty to being drunk at Newmarket Railway Station and failing to produce his railway ticket when travelling between Whangarei and Auckland. _ Senior-Setgeant Edwards said that when the guard approached accused between Henderson and Newmarket he refused to produce hb ticket. Accused was under the influence of liquor and ho bad the ticket in his possession. Accused was convicted and discharged lor drunkenness, and was fined 10s and costs for failing to produce his ticket, CHARGE AGAINST STOWAWAY. When a young man, John Walter Burdett. was charged with vagrancy ChiefDetective Curominga said accused stowed away on tha Kaitangafca at Melbourne last month and escaped ashore at Auckland without hoirg saen by the officials. Accused, who was remanded for a week, was ordered to be placed under control of Captain Davis, of the Salvation Army in the meantime. BREACH OF PROBATION. A charge of breaking the teems of his probation was preferred against Reuben fiiomas Wallace, ag;ed 38. Mr. W. J. Campbell, probation officer, said accsised was before the Court in May and was admitted to two years' piobation 'or false pretences. He was also oideted to make restitution of £ls, but had not dona so, and had not com plied with his probation. Mr. Campbe:! thought accused could be given another chance. Mr. Sullivan said accused signed on a boat after he was admitted to probation' and when he returned found his home had been deserted Accused was convicted and discharged, chaiged.
