CRICKET IN AUSTRALIA. BOWLERS PERFORM WELL. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 11-35 P.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 5. In the cricket matches to-day the bowlers were again successful on good wickets. For Central Cumberland against North Sydney Stenmark took five wickets for 40 runs. For Paddington against Waverley Gregory took four for 41, and Asher five for 53. Batting for Mosmau against Glebe Trennery made 84 runs. For Pdtersham against University Scanos made 109. CRICKET CONTROVERSY. EIGHT-BALL OVER AGAIN. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Oct. i. Discussion has been caused by conflicting versions of the decision of the Australian Board of Cricket Control to retain the eight-ball over. One version, which is generally accepted, indicates that the decision applies! only to test matches in Australia. Another merely says the board decided that the eight-ball over should be retained for test matches. Commenting on the latter, which permits the deduction that it applies to matches in England, leading cricketers said they hoped it was untrue. Lord Harris said: "Ifit be true, I am afraid, speaking personally, that we cannot meet the request of our Australian friends."
