LACQUERED FURNITURE.

There is a revival of lacquered furniture, a style that has not been fashionable for something like 200 year:?. One of the chief reasons for its return is the excellent way in which lacquered furniture will blend with the decorations that are already fashionable in many houses. It should be pointed out that a; good deal of the new lacquered furniture that is appearing varies from the usual in that it is not lacquered all over. Such woods as mahogany "and satin wood form the basis, and little lacquered motifs are I introduced to give a touch of colour and a rich appearance. This furniture is not too heavy to conform with modern ideas, but is "a relief from the solid oak to which we have become accustomed during the last few years. There is another thing to be said for the new style. Cretonnes can now be obtained specially prepared to match lacquered furniture. Curtains in this new material have a black background, on which are introduced Oriental designs in bright colours; one excellent example has tracery of gold, Chinese dragons and little Oriental flower effects. Wallpapers, also, are specially designed for lacquered furniture. As in the case of the cretonnes, the background is a glossy black, very much like lacquer The new lacquered® furniture is being made for all rooms of the house. For the sitting room it is particularly suitable, and it is now possible to obtain admirable designs in china cabinets bureaux, chairs, settees, let-down tables, overmantels and even little wireless cabinets with doors of Chinese lacquer. Bedroom suites have also received attention, and there is one particularly smart design in which medallions only are introduced in lacquer work on to the sides of wardrobe and the panels of the bedstead. This looks admirable m a room the floors of which ar* covered with Chinese rugs of rich appearance or,little Chinese rush m#s. The chief colours in this lacquered furniture are blue, green and red, always on a background of black.
